Loot Cards:
Drifters are now discovering LOOT! The drops come in the form of Loot Cards. The loot holders recieve is based on their Drifters’ gear, affiliations, or other traits that make them quipt for the acquisition of each item. These cards are owner-ship keys to in-world commodities and artifacts. New specimens will continue to be discovered as we explore further into The Fringe.
What are they good for? The cards exist on a custom Polygon-chain contract allowing their exchange to be much more fluid. We’re not saying much yet, but having some loot as we progress through The Fringe will be useful. Keep an ear out for more airdrop teases and announcements
Our community has also become involved in the creation of the cards. We recently concluded a week long Scablands Lab where holders were invited to workshop submit ideas and art for future cards. Seventy potential specimens were approved by the team and now the community has been voting to narrow it down to the top five. The creators of the winning specimens will be rewarded with percentage bounty of the NFTs created from their submission.
The final vote is today! If you’re a holder, you can jump in and help narrow it down to from the top ten: Link to Discord voting channel.
The Fringe Movie is being written:
Now that the focus has shifted away from launching the Drifter NFTs, Zeek and Chris are able to devote significant time to writing the script for the first Fringe film. There’s little to share as this development will be done in secret to create a spoiler-free experience. They do report however that the screenwriting process has had a completely different energy compared to any previous writing project given the density of the world they have at their disposal.
Hear Chris and Zeek talk about their screenwriting process, and getting The Fringe movie made on (spoiler-free) Thursday, September 22nd in a Twitter Spaces.
Once the script is completed, things can really move into high gear as we approach the casting and production design phases of filmmaking.
Drifter Matchups:
This week holders will have the opportunity to further develop their drifter and put them in head-to-head contests. Community will vote on competitions, and winners will receive loot card trophies.
It’s all going down in the Discord starting Tuesday Sept 6th.
A creature appeared at Lykenrot:
A massive never-before-seen creature, the size of a small freighter, crawled out of the ground at Lykenrot and promptly died. Its shimmering mane functioned as a beacon drawing drifters from all over the Scablands. An unprecedented gathering of Drifters followed. It didn’t start with violence, but it ended in a shootout. Aside from that, the details were fuzzy.
We asked drifters, where you at Lykenrot? And if so what happened? In response we received a deluge of over one-hundred stories. Now lead Artist Laurie Greasley and the team are working to piece it all together in a massive Where’s Waldo style art piece. Check out Laurie’s Raid Series to get a sense of what’s coming. In addition we held a random raffle to get holder’s Drifters into the scene. The final form will be released in an unconventional NFT format in addition to physical mediums.
This will be a canonical event, a collectively told story, reflected in the Metadata of Drifters and the final creation.
Still to come before the next Drifter mint:
We’re making something. Quantity of drifters held will matter. 👀
One drifter from the Scablands collection will make it into the movie.
We will soon announce the date for a tabletop gaming lab.
Lead characters in the film that reside in the Scablands will be revealed.
A vote was held on which of the above designs should be the official mission patch for the Scablands phase. It was close and contentious with the skull design winning 84 to 79. But we decided to have both manufactured! Holders can choose either one as a free gift, and purchase the other if they’re interested. Both will be available, along with other merchandise in development with the upcoming launch of the Fringe store.
